February 8, 2001. As many as 135 years ago Leon Bakst was born /1886-1924/. He was one of the most prominent artists of late 19th-early 20th centuries, known as a book designer and illustrator, portrait artist and landscape painter, and interior designer. His keen feeling of the epoch, fertile imagination and keen taste helped him create wonderful scenery. He came down in the history of arts as a distinguished theatre artist. His name is also inseparable from such significant phenomena of the national culture as "The World of Art" and "The Russian Seasons".
