The Paint Shop above the rear of the stage at the Royal Opera House, showing a backcloth for 'Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg' on the large paint frame. The large paint frame was 60 feet wide. The backcloth depicts the tops of houses and buildings. In the foreground are other cloths, paint pots and ropes. Parts of other sets lean against the far wall. Two model sphinxes can be seen ;
